Chances are, when you were seven, you did not swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco.
And when you were eight, you probably did not swim across the Golden Gate Bridge.
But that’s exactly what Braxton Bilbrey, now 15, did, in an effort to raise money for drowning prevention.
“Because that’s a major thing that happens in Arizona with all the pools and so I swam Alacatraz and dedicated all the money and stuff to drowning prevention,” he said.
Now a student at Notre Dame Prep, Bilbrey is a swimmer and baseball player who is continuing to do great things for the community. He helped to create the Foundation for Aquatic Safety and Training, which involved going to schools and teaching young children about safety around the water.
“We also help refugees learn how to swim, that’s another thing we do,” Bilbrey said.
The good deeds have not gone unnoticed, which is why Bilbrey was named one of five Fulton Homes Character Counts finalists.
