Coyotes’ Vermette, Yandle do ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ to raise ALS awareness

Aug 8, 2014, 5:49 AM | Updated: 5:41 pm

Hockey players are used to playing in frigid conditions, but the following has got to cold, even for them.

Several Arizona Coyotes players have started doing the “Ice Bucket Challenge,” which raises awareness for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Basically, a player gets challenged to dump a bucket full of ice and water on his head, and then he “pays it forward” by encouraging others to do it.

A video on the Coyotes’ website shows center Antoine Vermette taking the challenge, and after he completes it, he calls out a few teammates — including defenseman Keith Yandle — to do the same.

Yandle is shown accepting the challenge, and he ups the ante with three ice buckets, even pouring a smaller pail on a small girl, possibly his daughter, at the end. Yandle, too, calls out a handful of people to do the challenge, including left wing Paul Bissonnette.
