As the wait continues for J.D. Martinez’s decision in free agency, it has been no secret that the Arizona Diamondbacks want him back.
From Martinez’s agent Scott Boras reportedly meeting with the D-backs’ owner to set-up man Archie Bradley cracking jokes on Twitter, the team wants their slugger back.
Bradley confirmed there has been some adamant checking in from him and a teammate when joining the MLB Network’s Hot Stove on Monday.
“I’ve been facetiming J.D., I’ve been on him with everything I’ve done this offseason,” Bradley said. “Jake Lamb and I have been all over him. We’ve been facetiming and just trying to show him that we’re ready to have him back. Just dingers. J.D. We need him back in this clubhouse. He fit well, we liked him over here.”
Bradley’s campaigning having to extend into mid-February has been a surprise.
D-backs general manager Mike Hazen discussed the unusual offseason and how they are going about it on Monday while visiting Doug & Wolf’s Newsmakers Week on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
“The offseason has certainly gone a little differently than years past,” Hazen said. “We are looking to find the best possible solution. And it could come in many different forms. So like I said, you have to stay engaged with any and all different options until things become official somewhere else. We will continue to do that.”
When asked if there is optimism throughout the clubhouse regarding Martinez’s return, Bradley at least made his own stance known.
