GLENDALE, Ariz. – The spring training winning streak stopped at six for the Arizona Diamondbacks, as they dropped Sunday’s game to the Chicago White Sox by a score of 6-5.

D-backs pitchers struggled against the White Sox offense. Patrick Corbin kicked things off with a clean first inning after striking out leadoff hitter Yoan Moncada, but he then gave up an earned run in each of his subsequent innings pitched.

Corbin’s day ended after four innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

He was happy with his pitch count after the game as he moves closer to regular season form.

“They jumped on a couple of mistakes, but overall it felt pretty good to get up to close to 60 pitches,” Corbin said. “Later on I was getting quick with my front side, just yanking some fastballs. But I felt pretty good with off-speed and just working ahead of guys strike one.”

Corbin acknowledged that he was speeding up his delivery with runners on base and made adjustments as the day went on.

The relief platoon didn’t fare much better against this potent White Sox lineup, allowing six hits and three more earned runs after Corbin’s exit.

Right fielder Eloy Jimenez was particularly a thorn in the D-backs’ side today, going 2-2 with a solo home run, a triple, a walk and a run scored. Designated hitter Jose Abreu hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, and Moncada added a solo shot of his own in the sixth.

D-backs manager Torey Lovullo credited the White Sox offense for the outcome after the game.

“They came out swinging the bat today, you got to give Chicago credit,” Lovullo said. “They were aggressive on any pitches in the zone. We didn’t have a great gameplan against that, and I think that’s why we gave up some quick early runs.”

The D-backs posted five runs in the seventh inning by way of a slew of singles, a Jeremy Hazelbaker two-RBI double, and some misfortunate fielding by the White Sox.

BASE HITS

– Lovullo announced before the game that reliever Randall Delgado was experiencing some discomfort in his left oblique after Saturday’s throwing session. He’s hopeful Delgado will be available by Opening Day, but the team plans on taking every precaution to be sure he’s healthy.

– Lovullo also confirmed that Kris Medlen will get the start on Monday against the Colorado Rockies. Zack Godley was scheduled to pitch but will instead pitch in a simulated game the same day. First pitch for D-backs vs. Rockies will be at 1:10 p.m. at Salt River Fields.

– Medlen has a 9.00 ERA this spring in 6.0 innings pitched as a reliever. This will be his first start.

– The D-backs have 51 players left in camp.

– White Sox outfielder Nicky Delmonico left the game after a scary collision in the outfield during the seventh inning with a left shoulder subluxation (partial dislocation) and will be further evaluated.
