Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark was compared to many of the MLB spring training stadiums in the Phoenix area and other Division I college stadiums.
According to a feature on Ballparkdigest.com, Brazell Field offers a baseball experience they call “An Oasis in the Desert.”
Improved seating, themed concession stands and a multi-level concourse drew the most praise from the website.
Chair back seating and a new and improved press box, along with the upper-level concourse all offer terrific views of a mountain landscape backdrop.
The stadium layout offers ideal seating for the Havocs student section, and more discrete areas for families or fans just trying to enjoy a ball game.
New elements to the stadium were added as part of the GCU 10 in 2 program. The program outlined construction of 10 new athletic facilities in two years to help the school transition to Division I sports.
Lower-level temporary seating is expected to be replaced with permanent seating in 2019. Additions to the clubhouse and displays of the history of the program are also scheduled to begin construction in 2019.
The Lopes’ final homestand is from May 11 to 13 against the Sacramento State Hornets. The Lopes full schedule can be found here. Admission is free to all remaining home games.
The GCU baseball team was selected to finish first in the WAC preseason coaches poll.
