Acquired in a November 2017 trade for minor league pitcher Curtis Taylor, Boxberger joined Archie Bradley and free agent signing Yoshi Hirano in the audition to become Arizona's closer. The 29-year-old won the job and has the best resume among the three with a 2015 MLB All-Star Game appearance in which he led the AL in saves. Over the last two years with the Tampa Bay Rays, however, he's only made 57 combined appearances due to injuries. Arizona dealt a minor league arm, Gabriel Moya, to the Tigers for Murphy last July. The 26-year-old Murphy appeared in just five games for the D-backs but for Triple-A Reno hit .284 in 19 games. Murphy made the Opening Day roster after the team cut veteran catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann.
