Texas’ Thompson could be fit for Suns

With the NBA draft fast approaching names are starting to emerge that the Phoenix Suns may have interest in. Guys like Jeremy Hazell, Klay Thompson and Jordan Hamilton have all been mentioned and will be in town Friday for Workouts. One name not included in that list that fans should keep an eye on is Tristan Thompson.

That’s because ESPN’s Chad Ford thinks that if Thompson falls to No. 13 he won’t get past the Suns. Although there are plenty of teams selecting before Phoenix who have shown interest in the power forward from Texas.

It’s an interesting spread for him. He’s essentially taken workouts from the 4th pick to the 13th pick. Considering there are a few teams below that point in the draft that wanted him to work out (Pacers, Sixers) but didn’t get him in, his camp must feel pretty strongly that the Suns, at No. 13, are his floor.

If Thompson falls to the Suns, and that’s a big if, he could help fill the void left when Amar’e Stoudemire. Despite only standing 6-foot-7, his massive 7-foot-1 wingspan more than makes up for what he lacks in height. He could help with both rebounding and defense.

There is a long way to go before the June 23 draft, but if the Suns could land Thompson in the middle of the first round, they could have quite a steal. The first step in that process is next week when he comes to Phoenix for a workout.
