Why is Kemba Walker dodging Jimmer?

The big NBA news in Phoenix on Monday wasn’t that the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA title last night, it was that Jimmer Fredette was in town to workout for the Suns as they prepare for next week’s draft.

The more interesting storyline however may be who didn’t show up in Phoenix.

“How about Kemba Walker, who cancels again?,” Paul Calvisi co-host of Sports 620 KTAR’s Sports Interactive said. “Just like Sacramento, when he heard that Jimmer Fredette was going to be at the workout as well and they would be matched up one-on-one and working out against each other Kemba Walker declined? If you’re scared of Jimmer Fredette you’re not ready for the NBA.”

Calvisi’s opinion hits at the heart of the issue. If Walker is afraid of going up against Jimmer — whose defense is more porous than a dish strainer — is he ready for the pressure of the NBA?

Rumors have suggested that Walker is sliding down draft boards and may be available when the Suns select at No. 13. The fact that he’s dodging workouts that involve the BYU star may reveal more than if he had actually set foot on the court. He may just not be the type of player you spend a lottery pick on.
