New York media just won’t quit with Nash rumors

Jun 22, 2011, 5:36 PM | Updated: Jun 27, 2011, 3:44 pm

The New York media is at it again. Apparently in the Big Apple Lon Babby saying his club won’t deal Steve Nash translates to trade talks about the point guard are ‘heating up’ between the Suns and Knicks.

Maybe the confusion is because they’re from a city that never sleeps (we hear sleep deprivation can mess with the mind). That, or maybe it’s because the Knicks really want Nash and are finding it hard to take no for an answer.

One day after the New York Post tried to stir up trouble claiming that a Chauncey Billups for Steve Nash trade had been discussed, New York’s SNY.tv (a regional New York sports network’s website) is getting in on the act.

In a tweet posted by Tommy Dee, who runs the site’s Knicks blog, the writer claims things are getting interesting on the Nash to New York front.

The rumor doesn’t make sense on multiple fronts, beyond the fact that the Suns front office denies any desire to deal the former MVP. First, the Knicks don’t seem to have enough pieces to make a deal intriguing for Phoenix (sorry but the aging skills of Billups and another small forward in Landry Fields doesn’t thrill us). Secondly, it seems highly unlikely that Robert Sarver and his team would be looking to help out their former coach and power forward in their pursuit of a championship.

As Don Henley said, in a New York minute everything can change. Too bad for Knicks and their fans, this probably won’t be one of those things.
