Trading Nash to Minnesota would be cruel

Despite what ESPN’s Chad Ford has claimed, the Phoenix Suns are saying they aren’t trading Steve Nash to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Maybe that’s because they realized just how mean that would be to the former MVP.

“I’m all for trading Nash and getting what you can for him because you know the end is near for Steve Nash,” Dave Burns said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Sports Interactive Wednesday. “If you can use him to set yourself up for the future you do it. I’m just honestly not comfortable with sending him to Minnesota because they’re so bad. I think that is cruel and unusual punishment after everything Nash has done for the Phoenix Suns.”

It would seem unfitting for the Suns to trade one of the top players in franchise history to a team that finished 38-games under .500 last season. While the organization needs to do what’s best for them moving forward, you’d think they’d feel some sense of responsibility to send the two-time MVP to a destination he’d prefer. Minnesota certainly wouldn’t seem like that place.

While the Suns don’t plan on trading Nash right now, it seems that Burns, and many fans across the Valley, would like to see him leave for a chance at a championship if he no longer is in purple and orange. At least then trading the face of the franchise and a fan favorite would seem to make some semblance of sense.
