Oddsmakers think Suns drafted the lesser Morris brother

Jun 27, 2011, 7:01 PM | Updated: 8:04 pm

When the team selected Markieff Morris one pick before his brother Marcus went to the Houston Rockets, many fans had visions of Robin Lopez and Taylor Griffin dancing in their heads.

Is the power forward destined to follow in their footsteps? Did the Suns once again draft the ‘lesser’ brother? According to Las Vegas oddsmakers, yes.

The site Bodog.com released it’s odds for the 2011-12 NBA Rookie of the Year award and they favor Marcus’ chances (15/1) over Markieff’s (18/1).

The site lists former Arizona standout Derrick Williams, who’s now a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, as the favorite to win the award with the Sacramento Kings’ Jimmer Fredette in a close second.

While the casinos may think the Suns once again drafted the less impressive brother for a third straight time, that may just be because Marcus is a flashier player than Markieff. The award is primarily based on scoring and the SportsCenter highlights. Two things that Markieff probably won’t have many of next season.

Markieff is a player who will improve the Suns rebounding and defense. Not exactly what the national media and fans consider impressive or award worthy.
