Five-star recruit Taeshon Cherry officially heading to ASU

Apr 14, 2018, 4:15 PM | Updated: 10:16 pm

Five-star forward Taeshon Cherry is officially donning the pitchfork.

After announcing his commitment to the school in January, Cherry has officially signed his national letter of intent to become an Arizona State Sun Devil, the team announced Saturday.

The forward also took to Twitter.

“We official,” he posted.

ASU head coach Bobby Hurley expressed his excitement on social media as well.

“Great day for Sun Devil basketball!” Hurley said on Twitter. “Please give my guy (Cherry) a follow — unbelievable future ahead of him!”

Cherry had originally committed to USC over the summer but had a change of heart and decommitted in late December.

He joins a strong 2018 class for Hurley, with top-100 four-star shooting guard Luguentz Dort and four-star shooting guard Elias Valtonen also committed.

In addition, ASU also received a commitment from 2019 four-star guard Jalen House, son of ASU great Eddie House, in December.

Cherry, Dort and Valtonen will have work to do right from the start as the Sun Devils lost senior guards Tra Holder, Shannon Evans II and Kodi Justice to graduation.

On the upside, the trio will join a number of returning players as well as some transfers. Mickey Mitchell will be a junior, Remy Martin, Romello White and Kimani Lawrence will enter their sophomore years and transfers Zylan Cheatham (San Diego State) and guard Rob Edwards (Cleveland State) will contribute as well.
