Former Arizona Cardinals running back Kerwynn Williams has agreed to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

In his first three seasons with the Cardinals, Williams spent a majority of his time on the practice squad, appearing in 21 games while rushing for 545 yards and a touchdown.

He saw extended time in the Cardinals’ backfield in 2017 after starter David Johnson suffered a dislocated wrist against the Detroit Lions in Week 1.

Williams played behind running back Adrian Peterson, who the Cardinals acquired from the New Orleans Saints after Week 5. However, Peterson was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury after just six games, giving Williams the opportunity for an increased workload.

He finished the 2017 season rushing for a career high 426 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 10 passes for 93 yards.

Williams signed a two-year, $1.1 million contract with the Cardinals in 2015, but became an unrestricted free agent after the 2017 season.

Drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Williams was released three times by the Colts before he signed a future contract with the San Diego Chargers in January of 2014.

However he was released by the Chargers before the start of the 2014 season. He was then signed to the Cardinals practice squad.

With Williams reportedly moving on to Kansas City, the Cardinals remain have a total of six running backs on the roster, including Johnson who is due back from injury.

Along with Johnson, Arizona native D.J. Foster, Bronson Hill, T.J. Logan, Elijhaa Penny and Darius Victor make up the rest of the running backs group.
