Arizona Diamondbacks outfielders Chris Owings and A.J. Pollock are back in the starting lineup for Saturday’s contest against the San Diego Padres.

The duo missed the first game of the series against the Padres Friday after they collided in right-center field chasing a fly ball on Thursday.

Owings made a sliding catch while Pollock attempted to slow down and avoid contact, but was unsuccessful.

Pollock’s knee made contact with Owings’ chin, forcing the back of his head to slam down to the ground.

Owings suffered a head contusion from the whiplash and was evaluated for a concussion, while Pollock jammed his right hand but was later able to hit a go-ahead home run to help lift the D-backs over the San Francisco Giants, winning the series.

Owings reported to Salt River Fields the next morning to undergo further evaluation and passed the MLB’s standard concussion tests.

Both Owings and Pollock were available off the bench for the D-backs Friday night, but neither saw the field.

D-backs manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that he had intended to give Pollock a night off at some point.

“He could’ve played. I know that he wanted to play,” Lovullo said. “But I just feel like at this point in time it didn’t make sense.”

The two will be back in the outfield for the D-backs when they take on the San Diego Padres for game two of the three-game series.

All of the action can be heard live on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
