He played with a broken nose last season. It looks as
though he’ll play the start of this season with a broken
thumb.
Suns center Marcin Gortat suffered a “slight non-displaced
fracture on the top of his right thumb” in [Tuesday]
night’s preseason game at Denver according to team
president of basketball operations Lon Babby.
“It could’ve been a lot worse,” Babby added. “It could’ve
been displaced, then he would’ve needed surgery.”
Gortat did not practice Wednesday and will not play in
Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Nuggets.
The plan, said Babby, is for Gortat — after a couple of
days — to try and experiment and see if he can’t play
with a splint while the thumb heals, estimated by Babby to
be about 2-3 weeks.
