Marcin Gortat plans on playing opening night
Marcin Gortat insists the only game he will miss is
Thursday’s preseason finale.
“You’ve got to cut my arm, cut my head off to make sure
I’m not going to play. As long as I can walk, as long as
I can see everything, I’m going to be playing.”
Gortat suffered a non-displaced fracture on the top of his
right thumb during the second quarter of Tuesday night’s
preseason game at Denver. He will not play Thursday, but
does plan to be in uniform when the Suns open the 2011-
2012 season in four days.
“I’ve been waiting for the chance to play as a starter for
so many years I’m not going to give it up just like that
because of the thumb,” he stated. “You can be sure I’m
going to be playing on the opening night of the season.”
Gortat will wear a splint until the thumb heals, estimated
to take 2-3 weeks.
