Babby: Lopez a microcosm of Suns season

It’s been an eventful 24 hours for Suns’ center Robin
Lopez.
Lopez was ejected from Tuesday night’s 99-96 loss to the
Toronto Raptors for brushing official Rodney Mott.
Wednesday, Lopez was suspended without pay for one game
(about $35,000) for his transgression.
Also on Wednesday, Lopez’s play and contract status were
the subjects of discussion during
Suns
President of Basketball Operations Lon
Babby’s weekly visit with Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports
620.
“Robin Lopez might be a microcosm of the
whole team,”
Babby said. “We’re inconsistent and he’s been
inconsistent. He’s had some games where he’s terrific,
beginning on opening night and other games where he has
performed not as well. It’s certainly symptomatic of our
team.”
Lopez, now in his fourth season in the league, is
averaging 4.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in 14.2 minutes off
the bench.
Wednesday also marks the deadline for NBA teams to offer
extensions to players in the final years of their rookie
contracts. That won’t be happening with the Suns and
Lopez — at least not right now.
