Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz will likely be on the mound Sunday against the New York Mets, manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday.

Buchholz is 1-1 this season in the minors, spending time with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha and Reno.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has an ERA of 2.93 this season, striking out 19 batters in 27.2 innings and walking 12 more.

Drafted 42nd overall by Boston in 2005, Buchholz made his Major League debut for the Red Sox in 2007, going 3-1 on the year with a 1.59 ERA.

He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016 before he was granted free agency, signing with the Kansas City Royals in March.

Buchholz was released by the Royals on May 1, but was signed by the D-backs three days later on May 4.

He would be projected to face Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard on Sunday.

The D-backs continue to mull their options in the starting rotation with Robbie Ray out with a right oblique injury he suffered in April and Taijuan Walker out for the season with a partial tear in his UCL, resulting in Tommy John surgery.

Additional depth could be on the way soon, however, as Braden Shipley was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list on Friday and optioned to Reno.
