Jake Barrett has been recalled to the Arizona Diamondbacks while relief pitcher Jorge De La Rosa has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with an Achilles tendon injury.
The D-backs announced the move in a release on Saturday afternoon.
De La Rosa suffered the injury in the ninth inning against the Miami Marlins on Friday. The lefty specialist has a 3.54 ERA in 27 appearances with the D-backs in 2018.
At 37-years-old, he is the oldest player on the D-backs 40-man roster.
Barrett has made one appearance for the D-backs in 2018 pitching a scoreless inning May 11 against the Washington Nationals.
He allowed no baserunners, struck out one batter and threw seven of his eight pitches for strikes.
In 17 games this season with the triple-a Reno Aces, Barrett has compiled a 2-0 record with 1 save and a 1.71 ERA. He has 30 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched and has only allowed a .088 (3-for-34) average against left-handed hitters.
The D-backs have won three of their last four games and four of their last seven games following a seven-game losing streak in the middle of May. They will be looking to stay hot against the Marlins on Saturday at Chase Field.
The game can be heard at 7:10 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
