Saturday was a tough day for the Phoenix Suns.
Alvin Gentry’s team lost 118-107 to the Denver Nuggets, making
their path to the playoffs a little bit more difficult.
They also lost forward Channing Frye to a right shoulder injury, the
same shoulder he dislocated last season during the Suns’ push for
the
postseason.
But there was one highlight Saturday. Steve Nash found Frye who
hit
a three-pointer with 7:38 left in the first quarter. It was Nash’s
9,888th career assist, and it pushed him past the legendary Oscar
Robertson into 5th place on the NBA’s all-time assist list.
Nash finished the day with 13 assists to increase his ever-growing
career total to 9,897.
“It’s an amazing situation, I never thought I’d be in this position,”
Nash said. “But it’s hard to put in perspective, especially with a
loss.”
Next up on the list is Magic Johnson, who finished his illustrious
career with 10,141 assists.
John Stockton is the all-time leader with 15,806.
