Phoenix Mercury launch new documentary series ‘The Chase’

Jun 8, 2018, 7:45 PM

The Phoenix Mercury launched a new documentary series “The Chase” on Friday, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the team.

In the pilot episode, Diana Taurasi is shown in the offseason, playing in Larry Fitzgerald’s softball game and beginning her journey as a mother.

The Mercury began training camp in the end of April, preparing for the start of the preseason on May 8 and the regular season on May 18.

General manager Jim Pitman is seen on the phone confirming a trade for point guard Briann January, a former All-Star and nine-year WNBA veteran.

Another transaction was made, this time a selection in the WNBA Draft for center Marie Gulich.

Gulich, from Germany, received a video message from Dallas Mavericks power forward and future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki, who is also German.

There’s also the return of forward DeWanna Bonner, an eight-year player coming back after giving birth to twins last season. Bonner, 30, has spent her entire WNBA career in Phoenix like Taurasi and won championships in 2009 and 2014. She was All-WNBA First Team in 2015 and is a big boost for a team with championship aspirations.

From there, final roster cuts were made in preparation for the team’s home opener, where the first episode ends.

You can follow along with the season-long series on the Mercury’s website and Facebook page.
