Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin making the most of Stanley Cup win

Jun 9, 2018, 3:59 PM

The Washington Capitals captured the franchise’s first Stanley Cup by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in five games, and left winger Alex Ovechkin was arguably the most excited.

The captain of the Capitals faced criticism for his team’s inability to get over the hump and capture the cup.

But now that they finally did, Ovechkin is making the most of it.

Receiver of the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is awarded to the most valuable player during the NHL playoffs, Ovechkin has barely set the Stanley Cup down.

Seriously.

Shortly after the final buzzer, Ovechkin and the rest of his teammates hit the Las Vegas strip, ending up at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino where he joined DJ and record producer Tiesto during a performance.

Oh, and the cup was there, too.

Ovechkin, the cup and the rest of the Capitals returned to Washington D.C. the following day, showing off the team’s new hardware to awaiting fans.

But Ovechkin and the cup’s escapades didn’t end there.

Ovechkin threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Washington National’s game against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, which could have been the first time he actually set the cup down since winning it.

His first pitch soared over the head of Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer, but luckily, he was given a mulligan.

And if a night on the town and throwing out the first pitch wasn’t enough, Ovechkin decided to stand up mid-inning and hoist the cup in the air to adoring fans.

Keep celebrating, Alex.
