If Nash departs, Suns could pursue Deron Williams

While the Phoenix Suns haven’t given up hope of re-signing Steve Nash this
off-season, the team has begun making contingency plans in the event the
two-time MVP opts to walk.

Mitch Lawrence of the New York
Daily News
thinks the Suns could have interest in one of the league’s
premier point guards.

Brooklyn fans — it’s strange to write that — won’t like it, but the Suns are
going to go all out for Deron Williams.

Nash remains the Suns’ top off-season priority and the team is rumored to
be mulling possible offers that could entice their franchise guard to remain
in Phoenix.

They’re hopeful that a two-year, $20 million deal does the trick, and if they
add a third season that would probably cinch it since it would take Nash
through his 41st birthday.

The Suns don’t think Nash will sign with a contender but instead believe
the Raptors, Knicks and Nets stand as their biggest threats in retaining his
services.

If Nash does depart, the Suns are expected to make a concerted effort to
lure Williams to the desert despite the fact the competition to land the
highly-touted guard will be fierce.
