D-backs’ Double-A Jackson team throws no-hitter with 5 pitchers

Jun 14, 2018, 10:09 PM | Updated: 10:09 pm

Sometimes, you need a whole lot of little things to work together to turn into something great.

That would seemingly be the motto of the Jumbo Shrimp, the Miami Marlin’s Jacksonville Double-A team.

But on Thursday, the D-backs’ Double-A Jackson Generals worked together to achieve one of the great pitching feats.

It took five pitchers, but the Generals no-hit the Shrimp.

First, Justin Donatella turned in a Donatello-like performance in his three innings of work, striking out four and walking two.

A rain delay paused the game and forced the Generals to take Donatella out. Daniel Gibson took over the next two innings.

He struck out three in his hitless frames.

Kirby Bellow walked a batter in his inning, but he didn’t allow a hit or a run.

Kevin Ginkel came in for a pair of innings and struck out two before Brad Goldberg closed the game out. He struck out a pair in the ninth.

It took a while for Jackson to get going. They went hitless through the first three frames.

The rain delay must have helped, though, as the team hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth. Then, in the seventh, the Generals added all the insurance they could need with a four-run inning.

The Generals improved to 37-29 with the win.

It was the 13th no-hitter of the Minor League season, MiLB tweeted.
