The Arizona Diamondbacks sent starting pitcher Matt Koch to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday and recalled reliever Jake Barrett.
Koch made 12 starts for Arizona, posting a 4.40 ERA and a record of 5-4. The 27-year-old right-hander was helping the D-backs fill in the gaps of their starting rotation left by injuries to Robbie Ray and Taijuan Walker.
After giving up five earned runs in 5.2 innings on Tuesday, Koch’s next time up in the rotation was slated for Monday in Miami against the Marlins.
With Koch sent down, the expectation is for right-hander Shelby Miller to make his first appearance with the D-backs since having Tommy John surgery in mid-May of 2017.
Miller had his fourth rehab start on Saturday and was dominant, going 6.2 innings and allowing zero runs on 81 pitches.
Barrett has 99 career appearances for the D-backs, posting a 3.99 ERA in 90.1 innings.
