Suns draft picks highlight summer league roster

July 9, 2012: Suns announce Las Vegas summer league
roster

Markieff Morris missed out on an NBA summer of play and
instruction following his selection by the Suns in the
draft last season because of the lockout. He will benefit
this offseason, however.

Morris and this year’s first-round draft pick Kendall
Marshall are apart of the 15-man Suns summer league
roster.

There will be a team dinner Tuesday and then three days of
two-a-day workouts at US Airways Center before the games
begin in Las Vegas.

Here is the five-game schedule:
July 15 vs. Knicks
July 17 vs. Cavaliers
July 18 vs. Hornets
July 20 vs. NBA D-League
July 21 vs. Grizzlies

Here is the rest of the roster:
Diante Garrett G, 6-4 Iowa State
Matt Gatens G, 6-5 Iowa
Matt Howard F, 6-8 Butler
Akos Keller C, 6-9 Hungary
Marcus Landry F, 6-7 Wisconsin
David Lighty G, 6-6 Ohio State
Tasmin Mitchell F, 6-6 LSU
Patrick O’Bryant C, 7-0 Bradley
Doron Perkins G, 6-3 Santa Clara
Jacob Pullen G, 6-0 Kansas State
DeShawn Sims F, 6-8 Michigan
PJ Tucker F, 6-6 Texas
Erving Walker G, 5-8 Florida

Landry, O’Bryant and Tucker have limited NBA experience.

Landry signed with the Suns last year but was waived
before the season started.

O’Bryant may be the most interesting of the bunch. The
26-year-old was the 9th overall pick in the 2006 draft by
the Golden State Warriors. He may have a chance to land
permanently with the Suns depending on what happens with
restricted free agent Robin Lopez.

Meanwhile, Gatens recently worked out twice for the Suns
but went undrafted. Howard played on the Suns summmer
league team last season.

Dan Majerle will serve as head coach for the fourth-straight season. He’ll be assisted by Noel Gillespie.
