Arizona Diamondbacks prospect and right-handed pitcher Yoan Lopez was named to the World Team for the 2018 All-Star Futures Game that will be played over the MLB All-Star break next weekend on July 15.
Lopez, 25, is a native of Nueva Gerona, Cuba and was an international signing in the 2014-15 offseason. He is the No. 25 prospect in the D-backs’ system, according to MLB Pipeline, and is expected to be the lone representative for the D-backs in this year’s Futures Game.
Other D-backs to have once appeared in the Futures Game include Archie Bradley, Paul Goldschmidt, Justin Upton and Miguel Montero, among others.
Lopez has appeared in 27 games — all in relief — for Double-A Jackson this season, posting a 3.38 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 55 strikeouts to go with 18 walks. He has six saves in 11 opportunities and has held opponents to a .187 batting average.
Last season, Arizona was represented in the 2017 Futures Game by top prospect Jon Duplantier on the U.S. team.
This year’s All-Star Futures Game, as well as the other events in the All-Star break, will be played at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
