To say the Arizona Diamondbacks were prepared for what the San Diego Padres pitching staff had to offer on Saturday may be a bit of an understatement.

The D-backs found themselves in a two-run hole after the top of the first inning, but the Padres’ lead didn’t last long.

San Diego starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed the D-backs to load the bases for David Peralta, who took advantage.

An RBI single by Peralta allowed Jon Jay to score for Arizona’s first run of the game.

But they were just getting started.

A two RBI double from Daniel Descalso gave the D-backs the 3-2 lead, which Nick Ahmed followed up with a sac fly to bring home Peralta for Arizona’s fourth run of the inning.

Fresh off the disabled list after suffering a strained right hamstring, Alex Avila made contact with a four-seam fastball from Ross, putting it into play for an RBI double after a fielding error by San Diego.

In the second, Peralta recorded his second RBI of the day in the form of a double to right field.

Reinstated from the disabled list on Thursday, Steven Souza Jr. pummeled his first home run as a D-back, a two-run bomb to center field that sent Chase Field into a frenzy.

Souza’s homer gave Arizona the 8-2 lead. And keep in mind, it was only the second inning.

Nick Ahmed joined the fun with a solo homer of his own in the third, followed by a pair of RBI from Paul Goldschmidt and Peralta — his third of the night.

Jon Jay got things started in the fourth with an RBI single, allowing Descalso to score.

With Ahmed at third and Jay at first, Goldschmidt blasted his 20th home run of the season to make it 15-4 in the bottom of the fourth.

The homer also was also Goldschmidt’s 94th career home run at Chase Field, putting him just one behind Luis Gonzalez (95) for the most by a D-back.

Aside from it being the most runs scored by the team this season, it was the first time in franchise history the D-backs scored three or more runs in four consecutive innings.

And if 15 runs weren’t enough, Alex Avila added another one in the form of a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

But yet they still weren’t done.

Ketel Marte joined the fun in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo homer of his own to right field.

Arizona finished the night with a combined 18 hits and 19 RBI.

Goldschmidt (2-3), Avila (3-3) and Peralta (5-6) each had three RBI of their own — with Peralta matching a franchise record for the most hits by a player in a single game.

Padres outfielder Wil Myers did his best to keep San Diego in the game, blasting three of the Padres’ four home runs.

But the D-backs’ offense was too strong.

Arizona went on to defeat the Padres 20-5, setting a new franchise record for the most runs in a game.
