After 16 grueling innings on Sunday afternoon, the Arizona Diamondbacks ended the home portion of their first-half schedule with a loss to the San Diego Padres. It was a wild weekend for sure, as the team set a record for most runs scored in a game and tied the most innings ever played in franchise history.

After scoring three runs in the first four innings of Sunday’s game, the D-backs were shut out the next 12 as the offense looked lost against a good Padre bullpen.

Zack Greinke made his 400th career professional start on Sunday afternoon, and it was his shortest out of the season only working 4 1/3 innings as he struggled with command. Greinke’s shortest start prior to Sunday was last August against the Twins.

0-for-7

Nick Ahmed, Steven Souza Jr. and Jake Lamb each went 0-for-7 on Sunday afternoon. Prior to Sunday’s game only four other D-backs in franchise history had gone 0-for-7 in a game.

Catcher Jeff Mathis is the first position player to take the loss on the mound this season. The last position player to be the losing pitcher was Darwin Barney with the Blue Jays. It was Mathis’ first time pitching since 2012 when he was on the Blue Jays. Mathis worked one inning on Sunday allowing his first career home run to Wil Myers and getting his first strikeout against Carlos Asuaje.
