Suns near bottom of ESPN Power Rankings

Oct 29, 2012, 7:52 PM | Updated: 8:59 pm

We’re just two days away from the Phoenix Suns tipping off their 45th season in the National Basketball Association.

While Phoenix has a completely different look than years past with veterans Steve Nash and Grant Hill playing in L.A. and nine new players on their roster, there’s not a whole lot of optimism about the Suns returning to the playoffs after a two-year hiatus.

Marc Stein of ESPN has released his preseason NBA Power Rankings, and the Suns come in near the bottom of the league at #24.

Writes Stein:

Formerly the league’s great entertainers when a certain S. Nash was at the controls, these Suns will have to be scrappy to be competitive. Maybe they can draw motivation from the fact so few folks on the outside think they can rise, post-Nash, out of the 20s.

The Suns open their season Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors at US Airways Center.

While the Phoenix Suns' intention all summer was to not trade Deandre Ayton, an imminent Damian Lillard trade could make Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic available, something that could interest the Suns, according to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro.
