Alvin Gentry not concerned with Nash’s Laker debut

After spending the last eight years with the Phoenix Suns, the world finally got their first look at two-time MVP Steve Nash wearing the home gold uniform of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Nash’s new squad dropped their season opener to the Dallas Mavericks 99-91 Tuesday night.
Asked about his former point guard’s performance at shootaround Wednesday, Alvin Gentry sounded single-minded in his response.
“I’m worried about my team and how we’re going to play. That’s who I worry about,” he said. “I wish Steve nothing but the best but, you know we’ve got a monumental task ahead of us so I spend all my energy worrying about how we’re going to play.”
Now Gentry didn’t say he didn’t watch the Lakers-Mavericks game Tuesday; he did. And he did share a couple of thoughts about Nash’s new look.
“It is very odd watching him in a Laker uniform, it really is,” Gentry said. “I’m sure it’s no different from watching Derek Jeter in a Boston Red Sox uniform.”
Nash isn’t only sporting the new uniform, but a new look as well. Gone are the long, stringy locks he wore for most of his time as a Sun. Instead, the point guard has a more groomed hairstyle — much shorter and combed back.
“I think he looks great,” Gentry joked. “It’s a nice ‘do. The outfit was a little bit of a stretch, though.”
Nash came to Staples Center wearing a salmon-colored v-neck sweater with a white dress shirt and a multi-colored bow tie.
