Coyotes acquire Hinostroza in multi-piece trade with Blackhawks

The Arizona Coyotes have taken on the three years left on the retired Marian Hossa’s contract in order to acquire center Vinnie Hinostroza, defenseman Jordan Oesterle and a 2019 third-round pick from the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Coyotes will also send former Blackhawks center Marcus Kruger, Mackenzie Entwistle (Arizona’s 69th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft), prospects Jordan Maletta and Andrew Campbell, and a 2019 fifth-round pick to Chicago.
“Vinnie is a dynamic, right shot forward with high end skill,” Arizona GM John Chayka said in a press release. “We expect he will continue to grow his game with increased opportunity.”
Arizona acquired Kruger, who played for Chicago from 2010-17, on May 3 in a deal that sent left wing Jordan Martinook to Carolina.

Hinostroza, who signed a two-year extension in June ($1.5 million average annual value), scored a career-high seven goals with 18 assists in 50 games last year.
The 24-year-old sixth-round pick from the 2012 NHL Draft averaged 13:49 time on ice in 2018.
Oesterle, 26, played in 55 games in 2017-18 and recorded five goals and 10 assists.
“Jordan is a mobile, puck moving defenseman who will join our great group on the back end,” Chayka said in a release. “He breaks out pucks very well and will join the rush offensively.”
The 39-year-old Hossa confirmed his retirement to a Slovakian news outlet in May, according to the Chicago Tribune. A skin condition kept him from wearing hockey equipment and a solution to his heath problem wasn’t found, leading to his decision to step away from the NHL.
On a deal with an average annual value of $5.3 million, Hossa remains under contract through the 2020-21 season.

In the past, Arizona has pulled off similar trades accepting contracts into cap space in order to acquire additional young players or assets.
The Coyotes traded with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2015 for the retired Chris Pronger and Nicklas Grossman to reach the salary cap floor.
On the first day of the 2016 draft, newly-hired general manager John Chayka acquired Pavel Datsyuk’s contract — Datsyuk had returned to Russia to continue his career — and the 16th overall pick in a trade. Arizona sent the Detroit Red Wings the 20th pick, 53rd pick and forward Joe Vitale, using the first-round pick to draft defenseman Jakob Chychrun.
Two months later, the Coyotes took on forward Dave Bolland’s deal while also acquiring prospect Lawson Crouse from the Florida Panthers. Bolland’s career was at a crossroads due to injuries and concussion recurrences.
