The guarantee date on the contract of second-year Phoenix Suns shooting guard Davon Reed is on Friday, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

Reed signed a four-year deal with the Suns after being drafted No. 32 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. The second and third years of Reed’s deal are non-guaranteed and the fourth year has a team option. The guarantee date on next season was originally June 29 but the Suns pushed it back to follow Summer League.

Reed and point guard Shaquille Harrison represent the 14th and 15th final spots on the roster. Harrison’s contract is also non-guaranteed. After signing 2018 No. 59 overall pick this year George King to a two-way deal, the Suns have one two-way contract remaining.

The 23-year-old Reed in 21 games last year, averaging 3.0 points. Reed had knee surgery in late August, missing training camp and the first half of the season.

Then-interim head coach Jay Triano was not playing Reed consistent minutes in the second half of the season, saying that he was waiting on Reed to look 100 percent healthy.

Fortunately for Reed and the Suns, he looked healthy at the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League.

Reed averaged 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 49 percent from the field over five games. Known for his defense and shooting, the 6-foot-5 guard was a 39.5 percent 3-point shooter over his four years in college at Miami.

Reed joins Devin Booker and Troy Daniels in the current shooting guard rotation.
