The latest running back domino has fallen with the report that Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley has agreed to a four-year, $60 million deal.

The deal includes $45 million guaranteed and is the largest to be given to a running back as well as the largest yearly average.

He was previously on a four-year, $13.8 million deal.

Given that this is a new level in terms of running back contracts in 2018, it will be interesting to see how this affects David Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals’ contract negotiations.

Johnson was present during voluntary workouts in early April, but decided to hold out of minicamp as the two sides worked on a long-term deal.

Although nothing has been put in writing, Johnson did show up to Cardinals camp on Monday, four days before the team is officially back to work.

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Johnson is slotted to make $1.88 million.

“I trust my agency, Sportstars, and I know they’ll get it done when the time comes,” Johnson told AZCardinals.com about his contract situation.

Before the news of Gurley’s signing, the running back market was in flux. Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell reportedly turned down a $70 million offer from the team, while there has been a steady drop off in the length and worth of running back contracts.

Only Devonta Freeman and LeSean McCoy have five-year deals, with the Falcon receiving the latest of the two in 2017.
