Arizona left fielder David Peralta left the Diamondbacks’ game against the San Diego Padres on Sunday due to tightness in his right shoulder, the Diamondbacks announced.
In the sixth inning, the D-backs unexpectedly pinch-hit for Peralta. There was nobody in the on-deck circle, but Jon Jay stepped to the plate and ended up striking out.
“He just has some discomfort in his right shoulder, behind his right shoulder, and he felt like it wasn’t going to allow him to take his best swings. When I heard that, I just felt like it was best to remove him from the game and get him checked out,” manager Torey Lovullo said.
The Diamondbacks planned to reevaluate Peralta on Monday morning.
Peralta finished Arizona’s 5-4 win on Sunday having gone 0-for-2 with a walk.
He came into the game hitting .333 with three doubles since the All-Star break.
