The Arizona Diamondbacks and former closer Brad Ziegler are officially back together, the team announced Tuesday.

98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro reported the D-backs will send minor league pitcher Tommy Eveld in the deal for Ziegler. Gambadoro noted the Miami Marlins pitcher was an option for a D-backs club who has struggled to close out games lately.

In addition, the team transferred pitcher Shelby Miller to the 60-day disabled list. Miller was placed on the 10-day DL on July 12 due to right elbow inflammation. He went 0-4 with an 11.40 ERA in four starts for Arizona.

With Class A-Advanced Visalia, Eveld went 2-2 with a 1.24 ERA. In 32 games (36.1 innings pitched), he made 12 saves out of 14 opportunities. He was sent up to Double-A Jackson where he made one save and recorded one win in three games played. He was not among the top 30 prospects in the D-backs organization, according to MLB Pipeline.

In 2018, Ziegler is 1-5 with a 3.98 ERA. He’s pitched 52.0 innings (53 games) and has 10 saves on the season to go along with 37 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP.

In his last 28 appearances, Ziegler had a 0.64 ERA with opponents hitting .157.

Ziegler was traded to the Boston Red Sox from the D-backs in 2016. Current D-backs GM Mike Hazen was with the Red Sox organization during the time.

The pitcher holds a number of records for Arizona.

He has the most consecutive saves for the franchise with 43 and leads all D-backs pitchers with 348 games played. David Hernandez is second at 274.

Ziegler was also named to the team’s 20th anniversary squad as one of two relievers, with Jose Valverde being the other.
