The Arizona Coyotes signed center Christian Dvorak to a six-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.

“Christian is a highly skilled, reliable, two-way center who continues to improve each season,” Arizona general manager John Chayka said in a release. “He will be a key player for us in the future and we are thrilled to have him with us for the next seven seasons.”

Dvorak scored 15 goals to go along with 22 assists with 22 penalty minutes in 78 games during the 2017-18 season, his second in the NHL. That was good enough to finish third on the Coyotes in goals and fifth in points. He also was second on the team with a face-off win percentage of 51.4.

As a rookie in 2016-17, Dvorak also played in 78 games. He scored 15 goals on just 88 shots on goal (17 percent) and recorded 18 assists.

The 22-year-old was Arizona’s 2014 second-round draft pick (58th overall).

“I am very happy to sign a long-term contract with the Coyotes,” said Dvorak in the team’s release. “We have a great young team with a bright future and I love living and playing in the Valley. I’m excited to be a Coyote for the next seven years.”
