The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback controversy, and it’s not involving first overall pick Baker Mayfield.
It’s instead a question of whether the starting quarterback to start the 2018 season will be known as “TIE-rod” Taylor or “Tuh-rod” Taylor.
On Friday, Cleveland’s PR staff put out a request for media members to begin pronouncing Tyrod Taylor’s first name as “Tuh-rod (NOT TY-rod).”
To get to the nitty gritty of this, let’s start at the beginning of the controversy. We begin with this tweet on Monday, in which Taylor’s teammate, Joel Bitonio, revealed that the quarterback’s name has been mispronounced.
This is how good of a teammate LT Joel Bitonio is. He told me Tyrod Taylor’s name is actually pronounced TUH-rod, not TY-rod. And that while Taylor may be too nice to correct people, HE feels it’s important to get it right. From here on out, I will. #Browns

A Browns staffer confirmed the tuh-rrible tuh-ruth before NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala sent her tweet.
This gets weird because apparently Taylor isn’t the only one not revealing the correct pronunciation of his name. And he’s not helping the cause by referring to himself as “TIE-rod.”
#Bills HC Sean McDermott: “I have a ton of respect for Tyrod.” Pronounced it TIE-rod

Tyrod’s agent told me it was TY-Rod. His pops told me it was TY-Rod. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE https://t.co/RFHCPxt4Yh

NFL Network took tabs on who called Tyrod “TIE-rod” versus “tuh-rod.” It’s a lot to take in.

The crazy thing is Tyrod isn’t even super confident about how to pronounce his name.
“‘TIE-rod’ is definitely what I’ve heard most of my life,” he said Friday upon taking the very tough journalism questions. “My mom calls me ‘tuh-rod’ but she also doesn’t call me by my first name.”
What does she call him?
Di’allo, his middle name.
Ok now it’s Di’allo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now that this is still not settled, let’s see how Twitter handled such controversy.

I thought Tyrod Taylor’s name was pronounced Kirk Cousins 2.0 because they are basically the same average QB.

Lol, I think Tyrod is actually an Irish rooted name. Tuh-Rod, or Tee-rhd would probably be closer to its original intended pronunciation

Maybe Tuh-rod is his alter ego who actually throws the ball over the middle… pic.twitter.com/hj9SMsGqU2
