To no surprise, Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt now holds another franchise record.

In the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, Goldschmidt connected with a cutter from Angels starter Odrisamer Despaigne for a two-run homer and a 2-0 D-backs lead.

The home run was the 29th of the season for Goldschmidt, but more importantly, homer No. 96 for his career at Chase Field.

That’s a new franchise record, passing Luis Gonzalez’s previous top mark of 95.

Goldschmidt’s latest record comes at a time in which the franchise first baseman has caught fire. He has a 14-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 27 straight games.

It’s easy to forget that Goldschmidt’s hot streak also comes in the same season he went through the worst slump of his career. The 30-year-old hit .144 in May and ended the month with a .209 average on the season. Since, though, Goldschmidt’s monthly averages have been .364, .317 and .388.

On the year, Goldschmidt is now hitting .296 with 29 home runs and 73 RBI.

If Goldschmidt hits one more home run this season, it will be the fourth 30-homer season of his career.
