With now 44 days ’til the regular season, the ASU hockey team is toughening up — in the batting cages.
Wednesday, the team spoofed the 1996 film “Happy Gilmore” by remaking the classic batting cage scene.
In the video, forward Johnny Walker is seen taking batting cage balls to the chest, exactly what Happy — who was played by Adam Sandler — did in the film to “toughen up” when he did not make an NHL roster.
The execution of everyone involved with this video was excellent — it is a near mirror image to the batting cage scene in the movie.

Toward the end of the 38-second video, forward Dominic Garcia approaches Walker, portraying Chubbs from the film. He tells Walker he should give up hockey and “focus on golf.”
In spite of this, Walker and the other guys will probably stick to hockey.
The Sun Devils will return to the ice Oct. 6 when they host Alaska Fairbanks at Oceanside Ice Arena.
