ASU safety Jalen Harvey was ejected in his first game on the defensive side of the ball.
In the second quarter, he dove at University of Texas at San Antonio quarterback Cordale Grundy, who was sliding.
With 9:25 left in the first half, Harvey was kicked out of the game.
The former wide receiver finished the game with two tackles, both solo.
ASU was plagued by penalties throughout the first half. They had six in the first quarter alone, including a delay of game prior to the first snap of the game.
Harvey’s penalty was the seventh of the game. At that point, penalties had cost ASU 55 yards.
In all, the Sun Devils had eight first half penalties, which cost them 65 yards.
Despite this, ASU went into halftime with a commanding 28-0 lead.
