It’s tough to define clutch, and it’s even harder to measure it.

Daniel Descalso might just be the barometer.

He hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the ninth inning and give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 2-1 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

If the lead holds, the D-backs would tie a pivotal series and get back a one-game lead over the Dodgers in the National League West.

Arizona couldn’t touch Dodgers starter Walker Buehler. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt was the only player to get a hit off him.

But, in the seventh, Goldschmidt managed to score on a sac-fly to tie the game at one.

Alex Avila doubled in the ninth, but the D-backs couldn’t drive him in.

They went into the bottom ninth with a one-run lead.
