The Arizona Diamondbacks had trailed since the top of the first inning.

They cut the deficit to one in the fourth inning, but the Atlanta Braves extended their lead to 5-3 in the sixth. The D-backs again cut the deficit to one in the eighth, but the Braves put another run on the board in the top ninth.

It wasn’t over yet.

Pinch-hitter Christian Walker is a player Arizona hopes can provide power down the stretch. The team doesn’t have many bench players who can do so.

He flexed his muscles, hitting a ball off the home run porch for a double to lead off the inning. He took third on a passed ball and then scored on an A.J. Pollock sacrifice fly.

Eduardo Escobar grounded out, giving the D-backs two outs in the bottom ninth.

Luckily for Arizona, America’s First Baseman was on deck.

After falling behind 0-2, Goldshcmidt worked the count to 2-2 and then blasted a home run to left field off a curveball.

It tied the game at six and sent the game into extra innings.

It was the seventh home run in franchise history to tie the game with the team down to their final strike and the third time Goldschmidt has done it, according to the Diamondbacks.

It was the first time he had since May 2015.

Despite a slow start to the season, Goldschmidt now has 32 home runs, right on par with his norm. He also has 81 RBI.
