Cardinals’ Golden out, Gresham questionable for game vs. Redskins
Arizona Cardinals defensive end Markus Golden will not play in Sunday’s season opener against the Washington Redskins, head coach Steve Wilks said Friday.
Golden missed the final Cardinals practice before Sunday’s game on Friday as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered Week 4 of last season.
Six-year pro Benson Mayowa is listed behind Golden in the Cardinals’ official depth chart. He played in 14 games last year with the Dallas Cowboys and finished with 13 tackles and a sack.
Golden led the Cardinals in sacks with 12.5 sacks in 2016. He appeared in four games last year and failed to record a sack before his season-ending knee injury.
Wilks also said tight end Jermaine Gresham will be questionable for Sunday’s game. Gresham is recovering from an Achilles injury.
In his ninth season, Gresham has a career total of 368 catches for 3,658 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Ricky Seals-Jones will replace Gresham at tight end. Last season, the 23-year-old finished with 12 catches for 201 yards and three touchdowns.
