The Phoenix Suns announced Monday that shooting guard Devin Booker had successful surgery on his right hand. The expected recovery time is approximately six weeks.
The surgery was to repair an injury to the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint in his right hand.
98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro reported Sunday Booker was having the surgery on Monday in Los Angeles.
The same hand was a lingering issue for Booker during the end of the 2017-18 season in which he missed the final 12 games of the season.
The 21-year-old Booker proved he was one of the best young players in the NBA last season, averaging 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. In the offseason, Booker and the Suns agreed to a five-year max contract extension worth $158 million.
Six weeks from Monday would be Oct. 22, two games into the regular season. The Suns play on that Monday on the road against the Golden State Warriors and take on the Los Angeles Lakers two days later at home.
