After having some optimism that they could play in Los Angeles, Arizona Cardinals defensive end Markus Golden and tight end Jermaine Gresham found themselves on the inactive list in Week 2.

They were listed as questionable coming into Sunday’s contest.

The duo joins quarterback Mike Glennon, wide receiver Trent Sherfield, offensive linemen Andre Smith and Korey Cunningham and defensive tackle Olsen Pierre on the list of inactives.

Smith and Pierre had been ruled out prior to Sunday. Starting in place of Smith on the offensive line is John Wetzel.

Both Golden and Gresham practiced on a limited basis all week for Arizona, in which the defensive end showed some promise of being active as Wilks talked about how he might be used.

“We got to be smart and limit his reps, put him in situations where he can be effective,” Wilks said Friday. “Whether that be on third down, trying to rush the passer, those are things to think about. Again, he’s a guy like Jermaine that brings a lot of energy, communicates well, high-energy guy, guys feed off him.”

The last time Golden, who tore his ACL after appearing in four games last season, has been a full participant in practice was back in October 2017.

When healthy, Golden has shown flashes of his potential. Over the course of his career (35 games), the defensive end has 93 tackles and 16.5 sacks.

For the Rams, quarterback Brandon Allen, linebackers Trevon Young and Mark Barron, running back John Kelly, wide receiver Mike Thomas and defensive tackles Sebastian Joseph-Day and Tanzel Smart are inactive.
