Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did not return to the game after suffering a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter Sunday, but he expressed minimal concern after the game.

“I could’ve played,” he said after a second of thought. “I don’t know how effective I could’ve been, but I could’ve managed my way through.”

But the Cardinals, who lost to the Los Angeles Rams 34-0, had no reason to put the star veteran back in the game. Head coach Steve Wilks called it a “minor” injury and pulled him with the game out of reach.

Fitzgerald said the hamstring had “been a little tight the last 10 days or so.”

On Monday with Bickley and Marotta on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, Wilks said that Fitzgerald was still day-to-day.

“Again, making sure I monitor his reps this week. I know he’s going to get in there and get the proper treatment,” Wilks said.

He finished the game with three receptions for a team-high 28 yards.

After he felt the hamstring “grab” a second time in the game, he decided to not risk further harm.

“It wasn’t like a bad (grab), I didn’t feel it pop or anything like that, but it grabbed good enough where I know if I were to maybe kept going at it, it could have got much worse,” Fitzgerald said. “I didn’t want to add insult to injury.”

Besides Fitzgerald, two other players were mentioned by Wilks as potential injury concerns.

“Dennis Gardek is also questionable with his ankle and so is Olsen Pierre,” Wilks said.
