Cardinals center A.Q. Shipley works out five weeks after ACL surgery

Sep 20, 2018, 12:44 PM | Updated: 12:45 pm

ACL injuries are often detrimental, both physically and mentally, but one Arizona Cardinal is already making recovery strides just five weeks after surgery.

In training camp, Cardinals center A.Q. Shipley suffered a season-ending torn ACL. Thursday, Shipley posted a video of him squatting to Twitter.

Though it didn’t appear Shipley lifted anywhere near his usual max, it is a good sign for his recovery because certain knee injuries can keep players out for more than a year. It is also promising for the Cardinals because he has been one of their most dependable linemen the past few seasons.

Originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Shipley signed with Arizona in 2015, and since then, he’s played in 45 games with the team, starting in 32. Despite his injury, the Cardinals extended Shipley’s contract by one year through the 2019 season.

The Cardinals have gravely missed Shipley early this year, ranking last in the NFL in total yards, even with one of the most skilled backs in David Johnson.
