The Arizona Cardinals worked out former Arizona State and Cleveland Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez on Monday, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

After a Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints, the Browns waived Gonzalez and signed rookie Greg Joseph to replace him. In the 21-18 defeat, Gonzalez missed two field goals and two extra points, three of which came in the fourth quarter. Gonzalez missed a 44-yarder early in the fourth, an extra point with 1:16 to go with the score tied 18-18 and the potential game-tying field goal from 52 yards with eight seconds left.

Gonzalez was kicking with a groin injury at the time, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Cardinals currently have veteran Phil Dawson at kicker. Dawson missed a go-ahead 46-yard attempt with 1:55 left in Arizona’s 20-17 Week 4 loss to Seattle. He also missed from 50 yards at the end of the first half but has not missed since.

This season, Dawson is 3-for-5 on field goal attempts and 11-for-11 on extra points after he was 32-for-40 on field goals and 23-for-26 on extra points last season. The 43-year-old is in the second year of his two-year deal with the Cardinals and makes $2.5 million in base salary this season.

Gonzalez was the Lou Groza Award winner in his senior season for the Sun Devils in 2016 and was also a unanimous All-American. He was 39-for-40 on extra points and 23-for-25 on field goals in his last season for the Sun Devils.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, Gonzalez was selected in the seventh round by the Browns and went on to make 15 of his 20 field goal attempts as a rookie.
