The Arizona Cardinals have signed free agent wide receiver Kendall Wright to a one-year contract and released cornerback Deatrick Nichols, the team announced Monday.
The news was first reported by 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro on Monday.
Wright, 28, played for the Chicago Bears last year and recorded 614 receiving yards on 59 catches, with one touchdown.
He also played previously for the Tennessee Titans for five seasons after his college career at Baylor. He was drafted in the first round (20th overall) by Tennessee in 2012.
Through five weeks of play, the 1-4 Cardinals have the second-lowest average receiving yards per game in the NFL with 146.2, ahead of only the Buffalo Bills. They also rank 31st in average net yardage per pass attempt.
Dropped passes have been among the issues for the Cardinals this season.
Wright’s highest yardage total came in 2013, when the Texas native hauled in 94 catches for 1,079 yards.
Nichols appeared in two games for the Cardinals this year, neither of them starts. The 24-year-old is an alumnus of South Florida and went undrafted. He signed as a free agent with Arizona this summer.
